Reflections on the Admonition of Padre Pio that we Pray, Hope, and Don't Worry

ISBN 9798744915520

Worry doesn't solve tomorrow's problems, it only robs you of today's joys and peace.  In the concise pages of Three Portals to Peace, the reader will find a reverential, plainly written, and hopeful message about gaining the upper hand on worry and suffering.  In Three Portals to Peace, Clay Remington draws on the words of the Bible, some of the great minds, and noteably, on the teachings of Padre Pio, a humble but controversial mystic and Capuchin Franciscan Friar who has managed to comfort and touch the hearts of millions.

The Secret Forest

ISBN-1500717363

The Secret Forest is a series of illustrated short stories set in a magical forest populated by Ty'brith, a powerful but whimsical sorceress, wood fairies,  a mystical tree, an ill-tempered and mischievous witch, Hopi the giant bird, and little Ashleene, a tiny baby bunny. The forest sees many a traveler from the Outlands and always leaves its mark on upon them, even those who are allowed to leave!

Written in a strikingly visual, classical style and with a rich vocabulary, The Secret Forest can be read to small children or provided to older children for independent reading; to introduce them to a larger grammatical world.

The Secret Forest is illustrated with engaging color and black and white renderings by Brian Bloss, a graduate of California Institute of the Arts and an emerging talent in multi-media, computer animation, and the drawing arts who rendered the original art for the book from his farm-based studio in Silverton, Oregon.  You can see more of his creations at bbloss.com or click the "Meet the Artist" button below.

The Locust Years

ISBN-68-_________   (in development; an upcoming work)

The Locust Years, a phrase famously co-opted by Winston Churchill and originally sourced from the the Bible's book of Joel, describes time that is irretrievably lost to indecision, a lack of will, or deprivation.  Such was the fate of my Great Uncle Frederick Koenig, a patriotic Army reservist who was called away from hearth and wife and catapulted into the gathering storm of war in the Southern Pacific in October of 1941.  Frederick Koenig arrived by steamer in the Phillipines just weeks before the Japanese, after laying waste to Pearl Harbor, attacked and overran Gen. MacArthur’s pitifully unprepared defensive troops on the Phillipine island of Luzon, setting the stage for a hopeless siege, the largest surrender of U.S. forces in history, and the infamous 66 day Bataan Death March.

Years later, Koenig managed to reduce his notes and experiences from 3 years of captivity and suffering to a manuscript of remembrance, travail, and survival.   The Locust Years tells the story of Bataan and one extraordinary man who returned.
